On a standard keyboard, function keys are usually at the top of the keyboard directly about the number keys. A standard keyboard will have twelve keys, labeled F1–F12. Thus they are sometimes referred to as “F Keys”.
Each button essentially operates as a shortcut to tell the computer to perform certain tasks. For example, to refresh a page in a web browser the F5 key will serve as a shortcut alternative to navigating to, and clicking on the refresh button within the browser.
